CTFF Welcome Its Newest Member: Shawna M. Lesseur

Shawna M. Lesseur is a PhD candidate in Political Science at the University of Connecticut completing her dissertation, “Pinching Politics Through Film Narrative: An Ontology and Pedagogy of Genocide Film.” She holds Masters Degrees and Graduate Certificates in the fields of English, Human Rights, Political Science, and Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies.

She has studied the intersection of the arts and international relations for 10 years. Her research includes publications on the life and works of modern American playwright Eugene O’Neill and the role of film in human right education, field work in Peru with the activist theater troupe Yuyachkani, and five years focusing on interdisciplinary genocide studies.

Beyond her academic research, areas of professional expertise include academic program building, policy development for diversity and equity, instructional design, educational technology, curriculum development, communications, and leadership coaching. Currently the Training and Outreach Program Manager in the University of Connecticut’s Office of the Vice President for Research, she has served the University as an administrator and lecturer in multiple disciplines since 2008.
