In 1975, the Khmer Rouge rose to power in Cambodia. They forced people in Phnom Penh and other cities to evacuate into the countryside to undertake agricultural work. This was just the beginning of the Cambodian Genocide. Over the next 4 years it is estimated that 2 million people were brutally killed and many thousands of people tortured by the Khmer Rouge.Bunhom Chhorn (Hom) and his family lost everything they owned and were eventually thrown into Camp 32. Hom, just 5 years old at the time, was forced to do hard labour in the rice fields. He suffered severe malnutrition and dysentery. His family struggled to survive, eating whatever they could find to stay alive and supporting one another. Three of his family perished during this time. Hom survived, but not before being forced into the jungle with 150 other children to fend for themselves. Only Hom and 3 other boys returned.It is estimated that up to 30,000 people may have lost their lives at Camp 32.

To this day, there is no official record that Camp 32 ever existed. Our goal is to change this……
