Bochan was born in Cambodia but grew up in Oakland, California. Her family and her immigrated from Cambodia at the end of the Khmer Rouge regime in 1981. They moved around the U.S quite a bit and finally settled in Oakland.
Bochan discovered her love for music at the age of nine when she first performed on stage. She decided to pursue music writing as a professional career after her father passed away. Her father was the driving force in supporting her love for music. Some influential musicians that Bochan was exposed to were Lauryn Hill, Credence Clear Water, Bob Marley, etc. She was also greatly influenced by Cambodia’s king and queens of rock n’ roll Sinn Sisamouth, Ros Sereysothea, and Pan Ron. She was also exposed to contemporary Khmer artists such as Touch SreyNich and Oum Chhoun Malay.
